Nobel Prize Research is Highly Topical
Clemens Fuest lobt die Verleihung des Wirtschaftsnobelpreises an Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion und Peter Howitt. „Die mit dem Nobelpreis ausgezeichnete Forschung ist hochaktuell“, kommentiert der ifo-Präsident. „Die deutsche Wirtschaft befindet sich derzeit in einem Veränderungsprozess, in dem das Aufkommen neuer Technologien zentrale Branchen wie die Automobilindustrie und den Maschinenbau unter Druck setzt.“ Philippe Aghion ist Mitglied des CESifo Netzwerks, Distinguished CES Fellow und hielt 2007 die Munich Lecture in Economics. Peter Howitt ist ebenfalls Mitglied des CESifo Netzwerks.

The Business Climate Index for the German automotive industry fell noticeably again in September after sharp increases in July and August. It dropped to -21.5 points, down from -15.8 points* in August. This decline is primarily due to significantly more pessimistic business expectations.

Sentiment among companies in Germany has deteriorated. The ifo Business Climate Index fell to 87.7 points in September, down from 88.9 points in August. Companies were less satisfied with current business, while their expectations clouded noticeably. Prospects for an economic recovery have suffered a setback.
