ifo DICE Report 3 / 2019 (Autumn): Institutions and Economics: 30 Years After the Fall of the Iron Curtain

ifo Institute, Munich, 2019

The fall of the Iron Curtain 30 years ago marked the beginning of a fundamental change in the economic and political system in the former Eastern bloc. The goal of the numerous reforms was the transition from a planned economy into a market economy as well as the end of the one-party rule and democratic reforms. The articles in the Forum section of the DICE Report 3/2019 look at this change retrospectively and summarize important insights that the field of economics has gained from this transition process.
