Economic Effects of the “Berliner Mietendeckel”

Since the announcement of the rent cap, rents of dwellings affected by the rent cap and of those not subject to regulation have diverged. While rents for regulated apartments have been rising more slowly than in other major German cities since July 2019, rents for newer apartments not affected by the rent cap have risen faster.
