Current Developments in Material Shortages and Supply Problems in the German Economy

The recovery of the German economy continues to be burdened by shortages of materials in industry and the construction sector as well as supply problems in the retail sector. This article highlights current developments based on the ifo survey results for industry, trade and the main construction trade. Companies expect the bottlenecks to ease in 2022. One consequence of this crisis is price increases in almost all sectors. The ifo price expectations rose to a new record level in November.
