The Effect of Covid-19: A Gender and Migration Perspective on the Employment Structure in Germany

Due to the employment structure of women as well as migrants and refugees, these groups are more affected by the negative effects of the pandemic than others. Women make up 73 percent of the workforce in the health and social care sector. This sector is also one of the main employers of migrants in Germany. Refugees who arrived in Germany between 2013 and 2016 were primarily employed in the manufacturing and hospitality sectors in 2018, which were heavily affected by the pandemic.
