ifo Annual Report 2020

ifo Institut, München, 2021

In 2020, Covid-19 posed a huge challenge to our economy and society. We will probably be dealing with the consequences for a long time to come. The crisis came unexpectedly; politicians and the population were not prepared and had to deal with many unknowns. During this time, science was of elementary importance. The Coronavirus crisis also loomed large in the ifo Institute’s work in 2020. In its main topic, the ifo Annual Report 2020 provides an overview of the ifo Centers’ proposals for overcoming the crisis, for example with articles on a smart lockdown strategy, on the aid programs of the German government and the European Union, and on a more crisis-resistant education system.

In addition, the annual report provides an overview of the development of the ifo Institute in the past year. The ifo Centers and the Dresden Branch present their 2020 highlights. The infrastructure areas show how they have met the challenges of the pandemic by changing workflows and using new communication channels.

A comprehensive overview of the ifo Institute’s research achievements, committees, and staff as well as CESifo’s activities in 2020 can be found at: Download (PDF, in German)
