In the three large European countries, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, as well as in the United States, immigrants constitute a significant proportion of the population. The situation of immigrants in the labour market in all these countries is significantly worse, on average, than that of the local population. However, a comparison of immigrants and locals with the same level of education shows that the problems are fundamentally different in European countries and in the US. In Europe, unemployment among immigrants is much higher than among natives, while the wages do not differ greatly. In the US, wages are significantly lower, whereas the unemployment rate of immigrants is even lower than that of natives.
