Cultural differences have a major impact on the performance of students. Using data from nearly 2 million female students in 49 countries over the period 2000–2018, the study examined how patience and risk-taking affect student performance. The positive effect of patience and the negative effect of risk-taking account for two-thirds of the international variation in student achievement.
