ifo Membership

Membership of the ifo Institute – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich is available to individuals and organisations in Germany and around the world. The Ifo Institute is a registered society according to German law (eingetragener Verein – e.V.) and is governed according to its Bylaws. The ifo Institute is entered in the register of associations in Munich under the number 4419 and is recognized as a non-profit organisation.

As part of their membership, members regularly receive receive publications, invitations to events and discounts on selected products.

  • ifo Schnelldienst, ifo Konjunkturperspektiven and ifo Newsletters,
  • EEAG Report on the European Economy,
  • ifo annual report,
  • invitation to the annual meeting with presentations and discussions of economic-policy issues,
  • reduced participation fee for ifo conferences like, for example, the ifo Industry Colloquium (ifo Branchen-Dialog),
  • discount on other Institute publications,
  • use of the ifo databases and information services at a special price.

Members set their own membership fees. The minimum annual membership fee is currently EUR 400; plus value added tax for the subscriptions share (currently EUR 4.20 for a membership fee of EUR 400). Because ifo is a non-profit organisation, the membership fee is tax deductible in Germany.

ifo Honorary Membership

      In an official ceremony Professor Robert Haveman, University of Wisconsin, and Professor Assaf Razin, Cornell University, were made honorary members of the Ifo Institute. Both of the top economists were chairmen of Ifo’s Scientific Advisory Council (Razin: 2005 to 2008; Haveman: 2008 to 2013) and had a lasting influence on the scientific development of the Institute. With their scientific expertise, their global networks and their tremendous personal commitment, both men contributed to the Ifo Institute’s outstanding performance in evaluations and helped to turn Ifo into one of Europe’s leading think-tanks in the field of economics.

      We were saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Robert Haveman. Professor Haveman was a member of ifo's and CESifo's Scientific Advisory Council from 2005 to 2013 and chaired the SAC from 2008 on. He served as a Research Professor and spent quite a few research stays in Munich. Obituary

  • Prof. Dr. h.c. Roland Berger

      Prof. Roland Berger, business consultant, founder of the Roland Berger Foundation and Chairman of the Society for the Promotion of Economic Research (Friends of the Ifo Institute) was nominated an honorary member of the Ifo Institute by its General Meeting. An honorary membership is the highest honour that the Ifo Institute can bestow on an individual and is very rarely awarded. Prof. Berger was honoured by Ifo's General Meeting as an individual who has supported the Ifo Institute and economic research in an outstanding manner.
