Economists will meet in Leipzig from 22 to 25 September 2019 for the Annual Conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik, the association of German-speaking economists. The meeting will be attended by ifo researchers and the institute will be represented at the event with a stand.

Survey Series

Every two months the ifo Institute and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) Economists Panel surveys a representative group of economics professors at German universities on current economic policy issues. The panel aims to offer the public a differentiated perspective on how economists see the key challenges facing Germany in the present and the future. The survey results are regularly published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Publication Series

To respond quickly to the latest developments, ifo is offering an online publication, ifo Schnelldienst digital, in which one article will be posted on the ifo website as a PDF. ifo Schnelldienst digital publishes analyses, research and survey results as well as forecasts on the latest developments.

Publication Series

ifo Konjunkturperspektiven is a monthly German-language online publication that presents the latest results from ifo’s business surveys in the form of graphics and tables. The surveys cover manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, and the service sector as a whole, as well as the industries related to each of those sectors.

In addition to our overall indices and the regularly published export expectations and employment barometer, we publish further results of the ifo Business Surveys - at the overall, sector or industry level. How do companies assess price developments? Are they worried about their existence? Is there a shortage of orders or materials? Especially in times of crisis, companies' assessments reveal a lot about future developments.

Event Series

The public session of the ifo Annual Meeting is dedicated to a current economic policy topic and brings together science, business and politics.

The history of the ifo Institute officially begins in January 1949. Ludwig Erhard, the founder of the Social Market Economy, was an important figure in the founding history of the institute. He laid the foundations for applied policy-oriented economic research in Munich, which still constitutes the ifo today.

Survey Series

The Economic Experts Survey (EES) is a quarterly survey of economic experts worldwide. The EES captures their assessment of the current economic policy and political performance as well as of special questions in their countries. The survey is jointly conducted by the ifo Institute and the Institute for Swiss Economic Policy.

The ifo Institute supports the “European Charter for Researchers” adopted by the European Commission in 2005 and the associated “Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers” (“Charter and Code”), pursues the principles set out in the Charter and Code and submitted to the European Commission an internal analysis of the state of implementation of these principles and a plan of action based on the current status. As a result, the ifo Institute received the “HR Excellence in Research” Award from the EU Commission.

Publication Series

In addition to the ifo Beiträge zur Wirtschaftsforschung, which present selected studies in book form, other studies of the ifo Institute are documented as ifo Forschungsberichte and also made available to the public.

German Federal Minister of Education Anja Karliczek has appointed the Director of the ifo Center for Industrial Organization and New Technologies, Oliver Falck, to the newly established Council for Technological Sovereignty of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Event Series

At the centre of the EUROCONSTRUCT activities are conferences, organised twice a year at changing European cities by the national partner institute, with the focus on the cyclical development of construction activity and on further topics with direct relevance for the construction sector.

Research at the ifo Institute is organized in eight Centers, the Research Group Taxation and Fiscal Policy and the ifo Dresden Branch. All units have their own positioning, follow their characteristic program and offer specific services. At the same time, they are closely linked and all contribute to the shared research theme of the ifo Institute.

The ifo Institute conducts in-depth research into equality of opportunity, work-life balance, and child development. An overview of the ifo Institute’s positioning, studies on the effects of social and family policy measures, and other topics on women and family.

Survey Series

In order to increase the visibility of solo self-employed and micro enterprises, the ifo Institute has been publishing a new indicator since December 2021: the Jimdo-ifo Business Climate Index for the Self-Employed, which is based on the ifo Business Surveys. Similar to the overall index, all sectors are taken into account, with a focus on the service sector. To attract new participants, we are working on this business climate index in cooperation with Jimdo, a provider of online tools for solo self-employed and small businesses, and the Association of Founders and Self-Employed People of Germany (VGSD e.V.).

Publication Series

The annual report is the accountability report of the ifo Institute and is published on the day of the annual meeting.

Economists will meet online from 27 to 30 September 2020 for the Annual Conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik, the association of German-speaking economists. Amongst them are many ifo researchers.
