Safeguarding Prosperity with Energy

The 65th Annual Meeting of the Ifo Institute took place on Thursday, 26 June 2014 in the Grosse Aula of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. The Ifo Annual Meeting consists of a closed session (General Meeting, Meeting of the Board of Trustees) and a public session with an analysis of the economy by the president of the Ifo Institute and guest speakers from business and politics.

The motto of this year’s Annual Meeting was “Safeguarding Prosperity with Energy”. Successfully structuring the magic triangle of energy supply security, cheap energy prices and a reduction in climate-damaging gases was one of the major challenges of the years ahead. The keynote address was given by Prof. Christoph Buchal, Forschungszentrum Jülich. In a panel discussion Prof. Christoph Buchal, Prof. Aldo Belloni, board member of Linde AG, Jochen Homann, President of the German Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway, and Prof. Hans-Werner Sinn discussed the key issue of this year’s meeting. The expert panel discussion was chaired by Ulrich Schäfer, Chief Economics Editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
