70th anniversary of the Social Market Economy - what will be the future of our economic order?
The ifo Institute celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2019. However, the Annual Meeting 2019 focused on the future. What demands will business and politics make on a modern economic order tomorrow? The Vice President of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), Martin Wirsing, welcomed the guests in the Great Hall of the LMU. After a short film about the history of the ifo Institute, ifo President Clemens Fuest outlined the new challenges the future holds for the Social Market Economy and what the ifo Institute can contribute.
Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Chairwoman of the German CDU, highlighted new framework conditions and possible solutions from the perspective of federal politics. In a panel discussion chaired by business journalist Ursula Weidenfeld, lively discussions continued. Participants included Oliver Falck, Director of the ifo Center for Industrial Organization and New Technologies, Hans J. Langer, CEO & Chairman of the EOS GROUP, Karen Pittel, Director of the ifo Center for Energy, Climate, and Resources, Ralf Stegner, Deputy Chairman of the SPD, and Jens Weidmann, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank as a virtual panelist.
