Black Swans - War, Inflation, and an Energy Policy Shambles

Prof. em. Hans-Werner Sinn, President a.D. at the ifo Institut
12 December 2022 18:00 - 19:30

Great Hall of the LMU Munich, Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1
Prof. Hans-Werner Sinn auf der ifo Jahresversammlung 2015

Black swans are events that are considered unthinkable until they happen. The current galloping inflation falls under this definition, as does the veritable energy crisis that demands a fundamental revision of the green transformation model for the economy. National crises due to runaway public debt, such as in the United Kingdom, are also sharing the spotlight. The days of the free lunch, when countries and their central banks could simply print as much money as they needed to overcome scarcity, seemingly without harm, are over.
