Challenges for the Labour Market: How Can Germany Combat Its Shortage of Skilled Workers?

Faced with a high shortage of skilled workers, companies are finding it increasingly difficult to fill vacancies. As a result of demographic change, the labour shortage is expected to worsen. Digitalisation and decarbonisation also pose challenges for the German labour and training market. New technologies such as artificial intelligence will change job profiles and it is important to design education and training so that employees are well prepared for the demands of tomorrow.
