Research Areas:
Project team: Prof. Helmut Rainer Ph.D., Victoria Kaiser, Pablo Fernández Kolb

Tasks

Violence against women (VAW) is a major epidemic that is estimated to affect one in three women worldwide. To systematically analyze the causes of VAW, its consequences, and remedies against it, ifo will establish a junior research group under the leadership of an expert post-doctoral researcher, Dr. Sofia Amaral. By implementing an innovative research agenda, building a network of internationally renowned researchers, collaborating with policy-makers in both developed and developing countries, and providing excellent training for junior researchers, the group will produce innovative and highly-visible research with the aim of supporting an evidence-based approach to the delivery of public policy.

The group will work on the VAW topic within three major research modules:

i) the origins of violence against women;

ii) violence against women in changing economic and social environments;

iii) the role of policing and crime deterrence.

Dr. Alejandra Ramos (Trinity College, Dublin) and Dr. Ana Tur-Prats (University of California, Merced) are collaborating partners. Professors Dan Anderberg (Royal Holloway, University of London), Randi Hjalmarsson (University of Gothenburg)  and Gordon Dahl (UCLA) are senior advisors of the research group.
