Randstad ifo Survey: 61% of German Companies Allow Employees to Work from Home
Among German companies, 61% offer their employees the option of working from home. This is a finding from the most recent Personnel Manager Survey conducted by the ifo Institute in cooperation with Randstad. On average, companies allow their employees 6.4 days of working from home per month, down from the 6.7 days reported in the survey one year ago. “Trade companies and small businesses in particular are less likely to offer the option to work from home,” says ifo expert Johanna Garnitz.
In trade, the proportion of companies is 34%, down from 51% a year ago. On average, employees in this sector work from home on 5.7 days per month, whereas the previous average was 7 days. At small businesses with up to 49 employees, the proportion is 32%, down from 46%. Here, too, employees are working from home less. The average is now 6.6 days per month, down from 7.4 days.
“At large businesses and industrial companies, employees can work from home more frequently and for longer than a year ago,” Garnitz says. Almost all companies with more than 500 employees (94%) offer their employees the option of working from home. These companies are granting more days per month than they were a year ago: the average is now 7.1 days, up from 5.3 days. In total, 90% of businesses with between 250 and 499 employees offer working from home. On average they grant 6.2 days per month, up from 6 days one year ago. Two-thirds of companies with 50 to 249 employees offer an average of 5.5 days, down from last year’s 6.9 days.
