"Branchen special" provides continuous and up-to-date information in more than 100 reports about 150 sectors of Germany's small and medium-sized businesses from the fields of agriculture, industry and trade, construction, trade, services and environmental economics. The branch reports are published on a half-yearly basis and deliver key information that is used by cooperative banks in their lending and consulting business. In qualified creditworthiness test in particular, the reports offer corporate consultants at cooperative banks an overview of the outlook and risk profiles of individual branches.
Methods
The reports offer grounded analyses and forecasts of branch structure and economic cycles in a clear, standardised format. They specifically feature information on supply and demand structures in goods and service provision markets, company sizes and trends towards concentration. To assess the economic outlook, sales and production forecasts, as well as the monitoring of trends in capacity and prices are carried out. The economic state of a branch is examined using the results of company comparisons, official structure statistics and an analysis of pricing and cost trends. Moreover, the corporate policy options, as well as the competitive position and the competitiveness of medium-sized companies is also analysed. To account for economic changes, the selection of branches covered is adjusted from time to time to reflect changes in economic structure.
Data Sources
Data from official statistics, as well as from primary and secondary statistical sources, and especially association statistics, serve as the information base, in addition to the results of ifo surveys, as well as surveys by other institutions.
Results
Information is presented in condensed texts and tables, as well as in graphics that are updated on a half-yearly basis. The branch rating that features in every report provides the most important trends in sales and profits in the branch at a glance, as well as the intensity of competition and cyclicality.
The “Branchen special” reports are published by DG Nexolution. They exist in print, as PDF files on CD-ROM and as Lotus Notes applications for fast access via bank intranets. Since 2012 the reports have also been available as web applications (www.branchen-special.de) featuring cutting-edge design and improved functionality.
