Leasing and Investment Indicator

For more than a decade the Ifo Institute and the BDL (the Federal Association of German Leasing Companies) periodically conduct a business cycle survey in the German leasing sector. The leasing sector’s assessment of their current business development is particularly suited to forecast German aggregate investments.

The cooperatively constructed investment indicator by the ifo Institute and the BDL forecasts German quarterly investments by using the survey-based assessment of the leasing companies’ business situation and an econometric trend-cycle-decomposition. Moreover, yearly estimates of the German leasing share in externally financed investments using regressions are produced.
