Tasks

The task of this study was to calculate the direct and indirect economic impact of the Hamburg trade fairs and other events.

Methods

By using input-output tables, the direct and indirect production and income effects as well as the resulting tax revenue of Hamburg and Germany were calculated.

Data Sources

Based on surveys conducted during the project among visitors and exhibitors and selected Hamburg trade fairs and other events, the total volume of visitors and exhibitors for a typical trade fair year was determined.

Results

Visitors and exhibitors of Hamburg trade fairs and other events spent a total of € 475 million. The total aggregate sales volume as a result of the direct and indirect impact of the Hamburg trade fairs and other events is € 734 million. The concomitant tax revenue is ca. € 134 million.
