Evaluating the Effectiveness of a 1:1 Mentoring Programme
Project period: June 2015 - March 2021
Research Areas:
Tasks
Social mobility in Germany still depends very heavily on parental background. This project evaluates whether a targeted 1:1 mentoring/coaching programme for disadvantaged children outside of school leads to better school performance, increased social compentencies, and improved transition to the labour market or to advanced educational programmes.
Methods
The research question will be answered via the systematic evaluation of a large 1:1 mentoring programme.
Data and other sources
Field study with own data collection.
Results
The evaluation will not only provide evidence regarding the effectiveness of current mentoring programmes in Germany, but will also focus on the weak points of former evaluations. It aims to investigate both the short and long-term effects of the programme and uncover the concrete mechanisms underlying them. The ultimate goal is to provide more general recommendations for the design of present and future mentoring programmes.
