The aim of this expertise is to show how the Saarland is affected by structural change using suitable indicators in comparison to other federal states. In addition, a more detailed analysis at the district level reveals differences within the Saarland.

Methods

Analysis of the impact of structural change on the basis of various indicators. These include:

• Proportion of employees who depend directly or indirectly on the production of combustion engines,
• proportion of employees who work in energy-intensive industries and
• proportion of IT employees, and the dependence on foreign trade.
