Project

Long-run impact of energy and labor shortages

Client: Society for the Promotion of Economic Research (Friends of the ifo Institute) e.V.
Project period: October 2023 - September 2024
Research Areas:
Project team: Gerome Wolf, Alexandra Friedl, Timo Wollmershäuser

Tasks

Climate change will lead to far-reaching shifts in the economy that will affect the production potential and competitiveness of the domestic economy in the long run. With the help of a macroeconomic simulation model, different scenarios of short-term and long-term supply shortages (especially of energy and labor) will be investigated with regard to reallocations in the economic sectors.

Methods

An endogenous growth model with heterogeneous firms will be developed, calibrated and validated using empirical estimates. For the solution, an innovative method called DEQN - Deep Equilibrium Nets - will be applied.
