Client: Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria
Project period: 1 January – 31 March 2024
Research Areas:
Project team: Prof. Panu Poutvaara Ph.D., Dr. Yvonne Giesing, Joop Age Harm Adema, Clara Albrecht, Tanja Stitteneder

Tasks

  • What is the significance of intra-European migration and immigration from third countries for the Bavarian labor market?
  • How do other EU countries deal with immigration from third countries and
  • what, if anything, can be deduced from this for Germany and Bavaria?

On the basis of various data sources, the project analyses in detail from which countries (EU and non-EU) which persons come to Germany and in particular to Bavaria in order to take up employment. Relevant socio-demographic characteristics are taken into account. Furthermore, selected bottleneck occupations of high relevance are analysed, taking into account the share of foreign skilled workers in a comparison between Germany and Bavaria. The question of how long migrant workers with different levels of qualification stay in Germany is also examined.
