Tasks

The German Council of Economic Experts forecasts potential growth of well below 1% for the coming decades. This is due in particular to the shrinking of the German working population: According to the Federal Statistical Office, just under 30% of all working people in Germany will reach retirement age by 2036. The hope is therefore that technological progress will increase total factor productivity and thus potential growth. Artificial intelligence (AI) in particular is seen as having great potential for this.

This project evaluates existing surveys and data on how widespread AI applications already are in German companies, in which areas of the company they are used and what obstacles there are to their application. An international comparison will serve as a benchmark. Based on this evidence, conclusions can be drawn for policymakers and companies as to what steps are required to promote the use of AI in companies.
