This article examines the inter-industry wage structures in eastern Germany and in selected Central and Eastern-European countries, in which transformation has progressed at different rates. For a better comparison of results, the wage structures in these countries are compared with those in an established market economy (western Germany). Of particular interest is the question of how wages have developed in economic sectors, since this allows inferences to be made on international competitiveness in the industries as well as on the labour markets in the individual national economies.
