62nd Annual Meeting of the Ifo Institute

The 62nd Annual Meeting of the Ifo Institute took place in the Aula for the University of Munich (LMU). After words of greeting by LMU President, Bernd Huber, Ifo President Hans-Werner Sinn presented the most recent Ifo economic forecast. He then turned to the financial crisis and the Target credits of the European Central Bank. This was followed by the keynote address delivered by Thomas Rachel, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Education and Research who spoke on “Education: an Engine for Growth and Social Cohesion in a Globalised World”. A panel discussion ensued moderated by Hans-Ulrich Jörges, Stern magazine, with these participants: Prof. Roland Berger, founder of the Roland Berger Foundation, Prof. Bernd Huber, Dr. Peter Müller, Departmental Director at the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Prof. Hans-Werner Sinn and Prof. Ludger Wößmann, Department Head of Human Capital and Innovation at the Ifo Institute. The panel discussed the importance of education for economic growth and innovation in a modern society. The keynote address by Thomas Rachel, and statements by Roland Berger, Peter Müller and Ludger Wößmann as well as the Ifo forecast are printed in this issue.
