The Ifo Export Climate – an Early Indicator for the German Export Forecast

This study presents the new calculation of the Ifo Export Climate, the indicator for German exports. The components of the export climate are the world economic climate and price competitiveness. The former takes a far larger number of countries into consideration in the newly constructed indicator to reflect the growing diversification of German exports. Moreover, the world economic climate is given a greater weighting in the export climate than previously, since the influence of price competitiveness on demand for German export goods has decreased.
