Naturally Negative: the Growth Effect of Natural Disasters

The study presents a database that draws on physical units of measurement of natural disasters and makes it possible to estimate their impact on economic performance. On average, natural disasters have a clearly negative impact on per capita GDP. However, the negative effect can be weakened through qualitatively better institutions, and a stronger connection to international finance and/or goods markets.
