“Energy Turnaround 2.0 – What Needs To Be Done to Place Our Energy Supply on a Sure Footing Again!” is the title of a symposium jointly organised by the Ifo Institute and the Bayerischer Handwerkstag that was held on 28 January 2014. The event, which was moderated by Ursula Heller, Bayerischer Rundfunk, offered several proven experts from politics and science the opportunity to state their positions on the implications of the energy turnaround in Germany. After a welcome speech and a few introductory words by Heinrich Traublinger, President of the Bayerischer Handwerkstag, Franz Josef Pschierer, State Secretary of the Bavarian State Ministry for the Economy, Media, Energy and Technology, highlighted the special challenges of the energy turnaround for the Free State of Bavaria and the political measures that Bavaria intends to implement to overcome these challenges. In his speech Hans-Werner Sinn, President of the Ifo Institute, took a critical look at the energy turnaround and the resulting problems for companies and consumers. Following on from this presentation, Bernhard Schwab, Ministerial Director in the Bavarian State Ministry for the Economy, Media, Energy and Technology, Ingo Luge, Chairman of the Board of E.ON Deutschland, and Gunther Friedl, Director of the Ludwig-Fröhler-Institut, Munich, joined Sinn and Traublinger in a discussion of the question of which policy courses need to be changed to make the energy turnaround a success for citizens, companies and the state.
