The Long Shadow of History: Persistency Mechanisms in Economic History

Current economic history research proves that past historic events exercise a huge influence on current economic and social developments. At the conference entitled: “The Long Shadow of History” internationally-renowned researchers came together at the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich to discuss the historical persistence of economic processes. The conference laid the cornerstone for the set-up of a network of researchers working in this field. This article offers insights into this new field of research and summarises the research projects presented at the conference.
