The main causes are very probably demographic developments and the simultaneous accumulation of prosperity in endangered areas. However, climate change is also attracting a growing amount of attention in this context. Insurance companies are increasingly footing the bill for these natural disasters, and it is particularly important for them to accurately assess the sharp increase in these costs in order to correctly adjust their business models and future expectations.
