The Ifo Migration Monitor, published by the Ifo Center of Excellence for Migration and Integration Research (CEMIR) on a quarterly basis, provides up-to-date information on regular immigration flows and on asylum seekers in the European Union. The first article in this new series describes inflows of immigrants, as well as immigrants living in Germany, with a particular focus on asylum-seekers that have recently come to Germany. It emerges that immigrants tend to be less well-educated on the whole than the average German citizen. A higher share of refugees has a very low level or no education at all. This represents a major challenge for the integration of those who wish to remain in Germany.
