As part of this year's Ifo Education Barometer a series of questions was asked on the education level of refugees. It emerges that three quarters of Germans assess the average education level of refugees as low. Accordingly, the majority also does not believe that refugees will help to reduce the shortage of skilled workers in the German economy. As far as potential education policy measures for adult refugees are concerned, majorities are in favour of compulsory state-financed language course, an extension of compulsory schooling up to the age of 21 and a two-year right of residence for refugees on completion of a training course.
