In the April issue of the Ifo and FAZ Economists Panel economics professors at German universities were surveyed on the current debate over inequality. An absolute majority of 63% of participants believe that income inequality in Germany has increased since the turn of the millennium. 21% disagreed with this statement, while 16% were unsure. Economists were also surveyed on asset inequality and here too an absolute majority of 71% of participants also agree with the statement that income inequality has increased since the turn of the millennium, while 12% disagree with the statement and 17% are unsure. In May Britain’s potential exit from the European Union was the focus of the survey. An absolute majority of 85% of survey participants in the Economists’ Panel rejects the idea of Britain’s exit from the EU. Only 11% of participants support Britain’s exit, while 4% are unsure.
