Current Results of the Ifo Investment Database: Rising Leasing Rates Especially for Vehicle Investments

Since 1991, the Ifo Investment Database has been providing investment matrices for the whole of Germany that provide information on the share of individual product groups in the investments of an industry. The unique feature of the Ifo Investor Database is that it also provides a presentation of investments according to the ownership and user concept. The latter is particularly useful – in light of the increased use of leased investment goods – as a complement to the owner-concept used in the official statistics. This article describes the current results of the Ifo Investment Database, which already contain estimates for 2016. Particular attention is paid to the differences between the owner and user concepts, which are particularly pronounced in the road-vehicles group, where leasing is particularly intensive.
