In his commentary, Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, University of Duisburg-Essen, argues for a change in the measuring unit for fuels. He argues that in order to implement a truly climate-efficient propulsion programme in the automobile industry, energy units instead of volume units should be used as a measurement unit. This would enable a comparison of all types of propulsion according to the criteria of efficiency and would eliminate false allocation effects.
