In addition to gross domestic product, the German Federal Statistics Office also publishes the real value of gross domestic product. Both key indicators differ in their terms-of-trade-effect. In 2017 the German economy sustained a terms-of-trade loss for the first time in four years. This led to a drop of 12.7 billion euros in the real value of gross domestic product for the German economy.
