A quarter of the older employees in Saxony could soon be lacking young talent

By the year 2030, one in four older employees in Saxony could lack suitably trained junior staff. This is the result of calculations by the ifo Institute for the Saxon State Ministry of Finance. According to this, academic positions are likely to be more difficult to fill than positions requiring vocational training. The concerns of young academics are to be expected in particular in security, teaching and administrative occupations. As a result, the public sector is particularly affected by the difficulties in filling vacancies. The challenges could be alleviated if initial and continuing training activities were geared more closely to future filling needs. Digitalisation, on the other hand, is unlikely to help alleviate the situation, especially in "shortage occupations".
