The ifo Institute asked around 1,000 economists in 110 countries about the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy. Their answers suggest that it is investment cutbacks in particular that will have a considerable negative impact. However, rising national budget deficits, lower consumer spending, company closures, and problems in international supply chains are also seen as major obstacles. As a result, severe recessions are expected in almost all countries in 2020.
