Saxony, like the other eastern German Länder (excluding Berlin), is facing massive demographic upheavals that will lead to a sharp decline in the workforce in the coming years. It will be necessary to try to get by with fewer workers, either through digitalization and rationalization, or to solve the labor problem through immigration. The article shows how many foreign workers are already working in Saxony today, from which countries of origin they come, and in which economic sectors they work. In the future, it will be important to attract even more people from non-EU countries (whose immigration has been facilitated by the Immigration of Skilled Workers Act) to Saxony.
