In the summer of this year, the Saxon "Personnel Commission II" (Personalkommission II) presented its recommendations. The most important conclusion is that there should not be a reduction in the number of personnel; rather, all positions that will become vacant in the future for demographic reasons should be filled again in order to maintain the state's ability to act. The present contribution shows, however, that this is neither necessary nor possible. Instead, policymakers should review their priorities and adjust them if necessary. The necessary staffing levels would then also have to be determined on the basis of these priorities.
