According to an estimate by the ifo Institute, the number of employees on short-time work in Germany is likely to have fallen significantly to 5.6 million in July, after having been estimated at 6.7 million in June and 7.3 million in May. A decline in the high level of short-time work is evident in almost all sectors and regions. A particularly positive development can be seen in the retail trade and some service sectors.
