The German economy was hit hard in April by the corona-related economic and social shutdown. The shutdown had different effects on the various sectors of the economy. The manufacturing industry, corporate service providers, trade, transport and the hotel and restaurant industry were particularly affected. In the course of the easing, most sectors of the economy showed clear improvements in June. The only exceptions are manufacturing and closely related business services. Here the corona effect increased or at least barely decreased in June. Furthermore, the East German economy appears to have been less affected by corona in both April and June than the German economy as a whole. This could be due, among other things, to the less networked economy in eastern Germany, but also to the lower infection rates.
