The article raises the question to which extent the measures taken in the first and second waves of the Corona pandemic were actually suitable for containing the pandemic and avoiding "excess mortality" in the population. The focus here is on developments since November, as the incidence of infections in late 2020 was significantly higher than in the first wave. It is shown that there has been a strong increase in the number of deaths later in the year compared to the average of previous years. This is especially true for the age group 80+. In December 2020, about 70% of the additional deaths were related to the Corona pandemic; 30%, however, were due to the aging of the German population.
