A key component of the policy measures against the spread of coronavirus in Germany is contact avoidance. In the second lockdown from the beginning of November 2020, mobility decreased significantly, especially with the extensive closure of retail stores and increased uptake of working from home, although it remains open whether this is due to the official closure orders or to changes in citizens’ behavior. In contrast, there is no statistical correlation between trip numbers and infection levels.
