Relocating production back to Germany would have enormous negative consequences for Germany’s economic strength. Direct state intervention on the design of supply chains should generally take place only in exceptional cases. International procurement of goods and services offers the opportunity to diversify country-specific risks and make supply chains more robust. High political priority should be given to strengthening and further deepening the European Single Market.
