Industries in Focus: Road Freight Transport

The road freight transport sector is the most important form of freight transport in terms of transport volume. As data on transport performance is published with a delay, more recent data such as the truck toll mileage index or the results of the ifo Business Survey provide a good indication of economic development of the sector. The truck toll mileage index, for example, plunged sharply in mid-March 2020, but recovered steadily over the course of the year, bringing it back closer to the previous year’s level.
