Slowdown in Construction Activity and Change in Building Use

The coronavirus crisis had only a moderate impact on construction activity in Germany. The numerous impediments to construction activity apparently played a much smaller role than initially feared. Rather than the direct consequences of the lockdown and border closures, it is the indirect consequences of the pandemic, which are due to the economic upheavals, that construction companies are likely to feel much more strongly. Commercial and public-sector construction activity is therefore expected to be severely curtailed in the near future.
