In August, the ifo Institute surveyed 950 economists in 110 countries on the short- and long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy. The experts’ expectations of a significant decline in growth in almost all countries would result in a combined decline in global economic output of −4.4 percent in 2020. According to the results, the recovery phase is likely to be slow and in many places will last until 2022 or even longer.
