Autonomous driving, new mobility offers, and CO2 emission reductions require a profound transformation of the automotive industry. Both the development of new jobs and the development of skills show that this transformation is already in full swing. Digital skills in particular are growing in importance. In a global comparison, Germany is relatively well positioned here. However, there are differences between the major automotive manufacturers and the suppliers. The latter still have some catching up to do in terms of the digital skills of their employees. The companies are acquiring the new skills they need primarily through new employees. In addition, it is important not to neglect the further training of those already employed in the industry, so that they too can acquire the skills needed to tackle the new requirements resulting from the change.
